Part of the advocacy activity, Dar Atlas conducted opening ceremonies of the refurbished libraries at the cultural centers in Damascus, Homs, Hama, Aleppo and Jableh from the 29th of September till the 11th of October 2009, as follows:

At each library of the nine cultural centers an opening ceremony was held. People of different categories have attended the ceremony, and children with their families from the neighborhood have also participated. At each opening, the HI gave a speech introducing the program to the people and acknowledging Anna Lindh Foundation and Sida and their roles in the project. In addition, at each ceremony a researcher or a society figure has introduced an important paper about the children literature in Syria. Also, the librarian of each library has given a speech introducing her role and committing herself to fulfill the needs of child reader.

Almost at each ceremony there was interesting shows and activities presented by the cultural center or by the neighborhood of the center, and everybody enjoyed the ceremonies, children and adults. Some many people were involved in the ceremony of the opening of each center, many officials have attended the ceremonies like the governor of each governorates, and the directors of the cultural centers . The activity was well covered by all types of media (TV, radio, and newspaper). For more information about the number of attendees, the name and qualification of the resource persons involved, I refer the reader to the annexed report of Dar Atlas.

All in all, this activity was successful in promoting for the new children libraries and acknowledging the public directly about the library and the program, in addition to rising the interest of the children in their library. As an evidence of the success of this activity, many librarians have reported an excess in the number of children visiting the library after the ceremony.
