First Doha International Children's Book Festival

Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing (BQFP) and the Supreme Council of Education will host a high profile international festival of children’s books in Doha, Qatar from November 30 – December 2, 2010 to further support the development of the emerging literary community in Qatar. The festival is held in conjunction with the annual Doha International Book Fair and sessions will be held at the Qatar Exhibition center. The festival will feature prominent authors and speakers from the ِArab World and the UK.

The aims of the inaugural festival are in two major areas: to give focus to publishing activity in the area of children’s books and promote a literary culture among school age children.

The theme of the festival is to celebrate the authors of children’s books and appreciate their role in building a literary culture for the whole society by beginning with reading at an early age.

Sponsored by the Supreme Education Council, Qatar, Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing, and the Ministry of Culture. Arts and Heritage, Qatar, the festival will be Doha’s first International Children’s Book Festival, and will feature public events for schools and families as well as professional events for writers and illustrators of children’s books.

This will be an annual occasion organized by BQFP in conjunction with other local and international entities with similar goals.
