The roots of the current regional programme go back to the Sida-funded programme implemented through Diakonia in Palestine for ten years starting in 1991. The Palestinian territories have a strong infrastructure of public libraries as well as class and school libraries in public and UNRWA schools, and many teachers and librarians have benefited from capacity building workshops in the field of promoting reading.  Since… a national reading campaign has been implemented.

In terms of the production of children literature books, the number of children literature books published yearly remains steady if relatively low with the main publishers being NGO’s.

Brief Description: 
Tamer Institute for Community Education is an educational non-governmental non-profit organization established in 1989 as a natural and necessary response to urgent needs in the Palestinian community. The most important of those needs, according to the Institute, is the need to acquire means to help people learn and become productive.
