Flora Majdalawi

Flora Majdalawi was born in 1965 in Amman, Jordan. Since she was a child, she loved playing with word and making up rhymes, metaphors and alliterations. She graduated from the University of Jordan with a BSc. in Engineering and later obtained a Master’s degree in International Studies from Connecticut State University.

In 1991, she established the first specialized children’s bookstore in Amman “Majdalawi Masterpieces” and in 2004, she joined the “Interactive Knowledge Centre” as part of a highly qualified team to produce a leveled reading literacy scheme in Arabic: “Discover The Fun of Reading Program”. This reading program is widely used by many Ministries of education as well as private schools throughout the Arab World. In 2007, she enrolled in the Children's Literature Program at Pennsylvania State University.

Flora has translated about 20 children books into Arabic; both fiction and non-fiction. She has also written 12 short picture books. In 2009, she won “Best in the World” Award by Gourmand World Cookbooks for her book Green Food Fun. In 2011, Her book Al Bab La Yanfatih was awarded as best fiction for Special Need Children by The Anna Lindh Foundation.
