Image of the Child in the Egyptian Child Literature

Image of the Child in the Egyptian ChildLiterature

A child book of our time must have its own philosophy, methodology and goal. It must not be just indoctrination. The real value of the child book not only lie in its form and aesthetic, but lies in its ability to reflect the image of the child in it and to add educational values to the child's identity, pride, his relationship with other cultures and accepting them despite the differences in civilization and culture. The child book also establishes aesthetic visual values through literature, scientific and recreational materials and thus acquires the child special skills and expands his understanding of life. The visual dimension plays an active role in child books in particular. It reflects the different dimensions using its own entries of characters, backgrounds and colors, each of which has its own impact. Therefore, a good book can be distinguished according to its mating between what is aesthetic visually, what is moral and what the content presents. The content is divided into two types: first is known as the private content; this is which is associated with private self-motives. The second type of content is known as the general content, which originates from general motives as social motives which aim at using art to overcome daily troubles, or media motives which aim at defining certain ideas and perhaps up to advocate for the ideas of political and revolutionary trends as what is currently done by the presence of books with political implications for a number of Arab artists to serve the Palestinian cause. There are also economic motives and other religious and perhaps the last of these motives is the heritage and the requirements of developing it technically through the study of the ancient past and employing it to serve the present for better future; and thus having a real participation in the midst of civilizations competing globally through playing a role in establishing the principle of identity and the research focused on this concept at multiple points.

The research will present an analysis of the reality of the Egyptian child's books as well as the content which plays an important role in the development of the child's personality, the enhancement of his talents and abilities and making use of them to hold the child parameters of identity and ethics. The analysis also discusses the relevance of the book illustrations with the book's Egyptian identity in the present (through select models), the results of losing such identity in addition to the role of traditional folk arts in the consolidation of this principle in the child's book and the importance of technical attributes which show the Arab identity of the characters presented to the child in the book through the aesthetic approach to visual design and the handling of the literary text.

This made the researcher conduct a field study and a questionnaire to determine, through the children themselves, the level of preferences of literacy and the factors affecting it as well as the characteristics of the child's books of the class of age proposed in the research (3-5 and 6-9 years) in addition to the illustration of the importance of the employment of imagination in child's book for this class of age.

The researcher conducted a study of the art aspects that emerged clearly in the child's book in Egypt in the late twentieth century compared to the contemporary, to emphasize the importance of the reciprocity creative relationship between the artistic form and the functional content of a child's book and illustrate the importance of the role of the legacies of civilization in enriching the creative side of it ...

Then follows the practical part of the research which includes the analysis of chosen models of distinctive Egyptian books literary and artistically. The researcher discussed and analyzed the models then finally concluded both the general and professional problems and obstacles that may affect the publication of the child's book in Egypt, reaching the recommendations proposed for the concerned parties to present a special book to the child.
